Universal Geneve 1950s Tri-Compax 18k Rose Gold 35mm Ref 122100-2 Cal 281 Moon
Universal Genève

For auction is a rare 1950s Universal Geneve Tri-Compax 18k rose gold reference 122100-2 caliber 281 35mm manual winding moon phase triple calendar chronograph pump pushers screwback with American day and month. These fantastic watches were the pre-cursor to their more famous and valuable 1960's cousins (Nina Rindt, Eric Clapton, etc). They are less valuable and vaunted as those but offer up some of the same benefits: screwback caseback, round pushers. The reference 122100 is also interesting in that every example to be found has slight dial variations between them; this dial which I do believe to be original has a bolded 30 minutes register which is unusual. Otherwise the rest of the subdials, outer track, applied bullet markers, hands and signatures are all normal. It easily could have been a request from the original customer to have a more clearly visible 30 minutes register. The rest of the dial has a lacquer to the patina consistent with age. A very beautiful and rare piece.
